What we do
As a Club, we strive to do a combination of:
projects that are meaningful to our members
fundraising activities
learning and networking opportunities
social events.
Below are some of the projects we’re currently working on.
Brisbane’s Community Table
Each week (Sunday afternoon), we provide meals to vulnerable people in the Brisbane area who are experiencing homelessness or poverty.
Be an elf
The Be an Elf Christmas Appeal aims to assist children from under-privileged homes to have a better Christmas.
We put together presents for young children and teenagers, often including something too:
read
wear for school
play with.
The children’s letters often include requests for everyday basics such as shoes for school, or cot sheets for a baby’s bed. It is a great opportunity contribute to such a great cause.
We start collection around October/November every year.
The Winter Appeal
The Winter Appeal is also under the same provider as Be an Elf. We collect warm clothing provided from Rotary clubs, friends and family for young children and teenagers. This collection starts around May/June every year.
Christmas decorations at the Queensland Children’s Hospital
Continuing our theme of bringing Christmas cheer to children in need, we put on our Santa hats and deck the halls each year at the Queensland Children’s Hospital.
As one of the club member’s favourite activities, we put up multiple trees, hang ornaments, and bop along to cheesy carols in the outpatient’s waiting area.
Supporting Rotary youth programs
As a group of young professionals we are passionate about supporting Rotary’s established suite of youth leadership, team building and personal development programs:
These programs are wonderful opportunities for young people to learn and develop and are available at no cost to the participants.
Children’s Aid International
We support the mission of Children’s Aid International (CAI), to raise funds, promote awareness and provide opportunities to support women and children in developing countries. CAI is a volunteer run, non-profit, Queensland registered charity whose main beneficiary at present is the Children’s Welfare Centre in Nepal.
Our history with CAI goes back a number of years, with both our Club’s founding members and CAI’s founding member having been past members of the Rotaract Club of South Brisbane.
Fundraising
To help fund our projects, we regularly look for ways we can raise money, including:
raffles
applying for
community grants
Partnering with other clubs
We regularly support other clubs in our community with their projects and activities, including
MS Bike Ride
Celtic Festival
We also support other Rotary programs as we’re able.
